Year 3 – A head start that lasts a lifetime

Increasingly, our future families are discovering the long-term benefits of enrolling their daughter in Year 3 at Roseville College. Earlier enrolment allows girls to build friendships, confidence and a sense of belonging from the very beginning of their Roseville journey. It also provides a seamless transition into later years, laying strong foundations for academic and personal success.

Moving from Stage 1 (Years 1 and 2) to Stage 2 (Years 3 and 4) within the NESA curriculum also marks one of the most significant leaps in a student’s primary education. This transition shifts the focus from foundational skill acquisition to conceptual application, independence, and critical thinking.

The rigour intensifies across several key areas:

Literacy : progressing from ‘Learning to Read’ to ‘Reading to Learn’

Numeracy : progressing from Concrete to Multi-Step and Abstract

Inquiry and Integration (Science, Tech, HSIE)

At Roseville, our Junior School is an authorised IB school, and the Primary Years Program (PYP) provides our girls with the ideal tools to maximise this shift towards critical thinking and conceptual understanding. Under expert teaching and an explicit and rigorous learning program, the students are given agency, ownership and confidence leading to a highly engaging learning environment, and ultimately, students that are lifelong learners.

Alongside their classroom teacher, the students are supported by specialist teachers for Art, Music, Language, Sport and Library. In addition, our Inclusive Learning team, who work with students from Kindergarten to Year 12, provide opportunities and support for our High Potential & Gifted Learners, and our students that require learning support.

Other benefits of starting at Roseville in Year 3 include our Years 3 & 4 Instrumental Program, a broad range of music, sporting and STEM co-curricular activities and a strong wellbeing program. Our wellbeing program ensures each student feels known, supported and connected. With the program centered on Social Emotional Learning (SEL) and embedded within daily pastoral care, students develop the social, self-management and communication skills needed to build resilience, form respectful relationships and approach learning with confidence.
