Other Co-curricular Opportunities

Other Cocurricular Opportunities In addition to co-curricular Sport and Performing Arts, Roseville College offers a rich variety of co-curricular activities that provide the girls with the opportunity to use their individual gifts, pursue their interests, contribute to their community and develop their leadership skills.

Charity Group
There is a very active School Charity Group, involving girls from Years 7-12. The girls organise fundraising activities and contribute to many charities as well as gaining an awareness of the needs of others.

Community Service
Each girl in Year 10 undertakes a community service placement. Girls attend community service one afternoon a week for one term. Placements are organised by the school. Year 9 girls participate in a Community Service Day in Term 4 as an introduction and preparation for Year 10 service.

Cross-Age Tutoring
This program promotes community spirit, leadership and service and is open to girls from Years 10 and 11. Girls are linked with students from Years 7 or 8 who have requested tutoring. The girls become a role model and friend to the younger students, providing them with training and advice.

Crusaders
The Senior School Crusader group meets weekly to encourage each other to mature in their understanding of the Christian faith. They explore the relevance of faith in their lives through speakers, music, discussion and social activities.

Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme
This is an exciting self-development program aiming to equip young people with life skills to make a difference to their community and the world. Girls in Years 9, 10, 11 and 12 may participate in Bronze, Silver and Gold Levels of this Scheme.

Da Vinci Decathlon
The da Vinci Decathlon is a demanding inter-school academic competition which involves challenges in engineering, forensic sleuths, games of strategy, general knowledge and code breaking. It is open to students from Years 7 to 10, who form a team for each year group to represent the school in the competition.

Languages Club
The Languages Club organises events so that the students can enjoy different cultures through many diverse activities including watching films in foreign languages (such as “Harry Potter et Le Prisonnier d’Azkaban” in French and “Spirited Away” in Japanese), sushi making, calligraphy, and listening to talks by exchange students who have been to France, Germany and Japan.

Mock Trial
Run by the Law Society of NSW, this competition is open to students in Years 10 and 11. Students assume the roles of barrister, solicitor, witness and court assistant using scripts adapted from real court cases, learning about the litigation process and developing important skills in critical thinking and teamwork.

Monitors
Year 9 and Year 11 Monitors seek to actively promote the school’s educational aims and structures, its community spirit and service and its Christian values. Monitors have the opportunity to be involved in the student leadership training programs at Roseville and to offer guidance to peers and service to the school community.

Model United Nations Assembly (MUNA)
MUNA is set out in the format of the General Assembly of the United Nations and it brings together senior students to debate issues of international concern. Participants have the opportunity to interact with students from other schools, improve their public speaking skills and develop an awareness of the United Nations and the international situation of other countries in the world.

Peer Support
This is a pastoral care program where the Year 11 leaders meet on a regular basis with small groups of Year 7 students. Year 11 leaders have the opportunity to develop and practice leadership skills, act as role models and build positive relationships across the school. Year 7 students learn life skills through fun and safe activities with their peers, practice teamwork and build confidence.

Tournament of Minds
This competition develops enterprise and celebrates excellence. It consists of a concentrated six-week exercise where a team of students from at least 2 year groups must come up with a solution to a problem and present that solution in a creative fashion. The girls develop their abilities in teamwork, script writing, stage design and performance.
